The Lap Chole Project focuses on improving laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal surgery), one of the most frequently performed minimally invasive procedures worldwide. Led by Professor Arulampalam, the initiative explores how technology, structured training, and workflow optimisation can improve surgical performance, patient safety, and operational efficiency.

Professor Tan Arulampalam
Professor Tan Arulampalam, MD, FRCS, is a leading UK laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgeon, Visiting Professor of Surgery at Anglia Ruskin University, and an internationally recognised educator in minimally invasive surgery. He trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London and completed his surgical training across several major London teaching hospitals, including The Royal London Hospital, before further advancing his laparoscopic expertise in Rome
Professor Arulampalam has held leadership roles within major surgical societies and continues to champion the integration of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and advanced surgical education into modern healthcare and we are proud to have him as a member of the FreeHand by MediAkris Advisory Board.
